Her research interests lie in developing computational integrative methods and applying these approaches in the context of disease diagnostics and therapeutics.
Joseph Shieh, MD, PhD
Dr. Shieh is a board certified Medical Genetics and Genomics physician. He specializes in evaluating individuals with complex medical genetic conditions. Dr. Shieh's research laboratory aims to understand the genetic basis of diseases, particularly conditions affecting children, by using genomic and molecular tools that integrate novel technology with personalized medicine. He and his team also specialize in exome/genome technologies. Shieh is part of a Center for Excellence at UCSF.
Dr. Shieh received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and then trained as a physician scientist at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received his M.D. and his Ph.D. He completed residencies and fellowships at the University of Washington/Seattle Children's Hospital, Stanford University, and UCSF. He worked at Stanford and then developed his research program at UCSF.
Linda C Giudice, MD, PhD
Linda C. Giudice, MD, PhD is Distinguished Professor, Chair Emerita, and the Robert B. Jaffe MD Endowed Professor in the Reproductive Sciences in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She is a biochemist and reproductive endocrinologist specializing in endometriosis and infertility. Her research focuses on human endometrial function and regeneration, genetics and epigenetics of endometriosis, placental-uterine interactions relevant to pregnancy outcomes, and evaluating the evidence of environmental impacts on reproductive health and human development. She has mentored over 250 students, fellows and faculty, authored > 300 peer-reviewed publications, and is co-editor of 6 textbooks on women’s health, reproductive environmental health, endocrinology, endometrium and endometriosis. She is Past-President of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Society for Gynecologic Investigation, President of the World Endometriosis Society, President-elect of the International Federation of Fertility Societies, and Chair of the FIGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics) Reproductive and Developmental Environmental Health Working Group. Dr. Giudice is on the UCSF Steering Committee on Women’s Precision Medicine, the March of Dimes Scientific Advisory Council, and is an elected member of the U.S. National Academy of Medicine and the U.S. National Academy of Inventors.
Hakan Cakmak, MD
Dr. Hakan Cakmak is a reproductive endocrinologist and fertility specialist with UCSF Medical Center. He received his medical degree from Istanbul University, Cerrahpasa School of Medicine, Turkey. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale University. He subsequently received his fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Cakmak is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. In research, Cakmak develops better strategies for treating infertility, particularly by improving ovarian stimulation protocols and embryo selection techniques. He also investigates the molecular causes of implantation failures and miscarriages.
Marcelle Cedars, MD
Dr.Marcelle Cedars directs the UCSF Center for Reproductive Health and UCSF’s reproductive endocrinology division. Cedars received her medical training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. She completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Parkland Health & Hospital System, followed by a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at the University of California, Los Angeles. In her own research, Cedars focuses on ovarian aging and how it affects both fertility and women’s overall health.
Eleni Greenwood Jaswa, MD
Dr. Eleni Greenwood Jaswa is a reproductive endocrinologist and fertility specialist at UCSF Medical Center. Jaswa earned her bachelor's degree in human biology and her master of science degree in biological sciences at Stanford University. She completed her medical degree at Weill Cornell Medicine. At UCSF, she completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology, followed by a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Passionate about research, Jaswa's diverse interests include PCOS, mental health and wellness, fertility biomarkers, unexplained infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, preimplantation genetic testing and fertility preservation methods. She is involved in research projects focused on patients' experience with egg freezing, as well as research to understand and enhance the health of patients with PCOS.
Ruth Baker Lathi, MD (Stanford)
Dr.Ruth Baker Lathi is a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Director of the Multi-specialty Recurrent Pregnancy Loss program at Stanford, and is the Program Director of the REI Fellowship. Lathi graduated Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Molecular Biology; she earned her M.D. degree at University of California, San Francisco, and completed her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine. She completed her sub-specialty fellowship training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) at Stanford University.
